Being lucky enough to have experienced the great work The New Life Children’s Centre do in the Gambia, when I went out last year in March, I was determined to raise funds in order to help build new classrooms in the school at Half-Dye.
I love the outdoors, keeping fit and thrive on a challenge so when a friend of mine, Malcolm Smith, came up with the idea of climbing Ben Nevis I knew it would be a great fund raising success. Malcolm is an experienced walker who climbed Ben Nevis last year and has thrown himself into making the idea a reality.
This year in April we are taking approximately twenty volunteers, who have each pledged to raise a minimum of £500, in order to reach our goal of raising £10,000. We are flying out from Nottingham airport to Glasgow and then taking a coach to Fort William where we are staying in a youth hostel nestled in the mountain. The next morning we will set out to climb Ben Nevis, which will take approximately 8 hours. The following day we will return home, tired but triumphant!
